Facebook Integration in Mountain Lion ist da

Ihr habt es sicher bereits gehört. Apple hat mit seinem letzten Update für Mountain Lion neben Twitter auch Facebook integriert. Warum das so ein tolles Feature ist fragt ihr. Durch die Integration von Facebook erhalten eure Kontakte die in Facebook hinterlegten Profilbilder. Ein weiterer Vorteil ist, dass wenn ihr nur eine Telefonnummer habt das Adressbuch sich nun die restlichen Daten (Name, Bild, etc) sich direkt von Facebook holt. 

Keine Sorge, bei der ganzen hin und her Synchroniererei wird die Privatsphäre der Facebook Nutzer gewährt. Es wird nicht mehr sychronisiert als freigegeben wurde. 

Wie mir zu Ohren gekommen ist gibt es ein paar Stolperfallen auf Seiten von Facebook die ihr beachten solltet. Facebook will unbedingt seine eigenen Email Adressen unters Volk bringen und "versteckt" die persönliche Email Adresse des Nutzers etwas. Lässt sich recht leicht korrigieren indem ihr in euren Info Einstellungen wieder eure persönliche Email zur Nr. 1 macht.
Damit nicht jeder eure Daten anhand der Telefonnummer erhalten kann müsst ihr in den Privatsphären Einstellungen darauf achten, dass es dafür zwei getrennte Einstellungen gibt. Ihr könnt eure Telefonnummer auf Facebook für eure Freunde sichtbar machen und zusätzlich kann man euch mit eurer Telefonnummer finden. 

Facebook ist ja nun auch Bestandteil von iOS6 auf iPhone und iPad somit gilt das auch für diese Geräte. Beim iPhone macht die Synchronisation mit Facebook am meisten Sinn. Neue Telefonnummer eintragen und den Rest von Facebook holen.

Better Organized Search

OK – it's official: I'm on an official Google+ Love Fest! The expanded vision of what Google is up to here is starting to unfold, and it's wonderful. 

In a comment on my last post about Google History, +Thomas Morffew noted the "Other" view in History. Click on that and you see Google doing some very interesting organizing of your searches – over time. In the below image, you can see my search for happiness, well, at least you can online searches for terms related to "happiness" through Google search (part of a new project I'm working on).

Aside from showing the nice visual composite, the resulting found objects (or "tasks"), and the results of the searches, it also show you your activity around this search topic over time. Doesn't that graphic kind of remind you of Ripples? Hmmmm…..

Here's what I can't quite tell yet, but I also think that Google may be applying a little bit of the Knowledge Graph here to try to categorize these searches, to clump them, if you will. For instance, my searches for "Twitter" are clumped under a category called "Internet." Wow. 

Also, I think that Google may be preparing to allow us to publicly share these historical compilations themselves. Why do I say that? Well, look at the image below. I can edit the title, so that it no longer says "Happiness" but instead "The Search for Happiness." I can also add a little tagline, as I did with "This was part of my research for the new site." I can also delete individual items from the results on this page. A kind of curated search results that can be shared. Wow. What will they think of next? 

No, seriously, what will they think of next? I can't wait to see. I feel like a kid in a candy shop…
